Washington, DC- Today the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, a division of the U.S. Department of Interior, announced that 122,405 acres offshore North Carolina will be offered in March 6th commercial wind lease sale.

Environment North Carolina praised the move as a critical step in unleashing the immense power of the winds off the coast of North Carolina.

“We applaud the Obama Administration and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management for laying the foundation for North Carolina to harness this incredible pollution-free resource. Offshore wind will be a key part of putting North Carolina on a path toward a 100 percent renewable energy future. We look forward to working with local, state and national leaders in their efforts to move North Carolina toward a renewable energy economy” said Bronte Payne, Environment America Clean Energy Associate.
