This year the General
Assembly has the chance to save one million acres, cut air pollution
Raleigh, NC—As
the 2006 short session kicks off, recent scandals surrounding the legislature
and lobbyists beg the question:
what can lawmakers do this year to show that they are protecting the
public’s interest over those of powerful special-interest insiders? For the environment, there are plenty of
answers, beginning with the Land and Water Conservation Bond and the Clean Cars
Act.
Environment North Carolina,
the new home of NCPIRG’s environmental work, released its legislative agenda
today with a host of steps lawmakers can take to fulfill the state’s goal of
preserving one million acres, cut harmful air pollution, protect rivers and
streams, and more.
