Repower North Carolina

What's New

This summer, U.S. Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) introduced The American Power Act, a comprehensive clean energy and global warming bill that would have repowered this country with clean energy and created millions of new clean energy jobs. The good news for North Carolina--Sen. Kay Hagan (D-Greensboro) signed onto a number of letters supporting a comprehensive bill.  Unfortunately, in the face of opposition from Republicans and Big Oil, the plan to move this bill forward has stalled.

In the absence of a comprehensive clean energy and global warming bill, the Senate will likely act on a much smaller bill that will respond to the Gulf oil spill when they return from recess in September.

Take Action

It is now more important than ever for Sen. Hagan to hear from you.  Ask Sen. Hagan to speak up in the Senate for strong action on global warming by signing our petition.

Brief Summary

Our chance to solve global warming is now.  With new leadership in Washington and an increasing awareness of global warming, the bold solutions we need are finally within reach.  Clean energy technologies like wind and solar can reduce global warming pollution while creating thousands of jobs in the Tar Heel state.

With more than 1,000 clean energy businesses statewide, North Carolina is home to some of the top entrepreneurs in the renewable energy industry.  Across the state, investors are already developing renewable energy projects that repower North Carolina with clean sources of power, cut global warming pollution, and create thousands of new jobs.

North Carolina became a leader by passing the Southeast's first renewable energy standard--requiring utilities to use more renewable energy, reducing global warming, and creating jobs.  It is time for Senators Burr and Hagan to be leaders by supporting a strong clean energy and global warming bill in Congress.
