Event focuses on global warming

Concerned about global warming?

Then join researchers and environmentalists Saturday afternoon at the University of North Carolina Wilmington to find out what you can do to help.

Speakers at the "Take Action Tour on Climate Change" will talk about decisions national and state lawmakers can be asked to make to start reducing the amount of greenhouse gasses North Carolina is pumping into the atmosphere.

There also will be tips on how individuals can reduce their own carbon footprint, such as by buying cars that run on clean and renewable fuels.

The event will run from 1 to 3 p.m. at UNCW's Warwick Center, Ballroom 3.

Potential local impacts from rising temperatures include the inundation of low-lying coastal areas due to rising sea levels and the washing away of beaches.
