Join the coalition to protect one million acres
North Carolina's rapid development -- the sixth fastest in the nation -- is jeopardizing some of our state's most treasured forests and farmlands. In 2000, state leaders responded to the state's uncontrolled growth by promising to protect an additional one million acres of open spaces across the state. Now, North Carolina is closer than ever to fulfilling the million-acre promise. That's why Environment North Carolina is calling on Gov. Easley and state legislators to allocate an additional $250 million to finish the job. And we need your help to do it. Take a moment to join Land for Tomorrow, a partnership of more than 200 conservationists, farmers, business leaders, local governments, health professionals, and community groups across North Carolina. Environment North Carolina is one of the founding members of Land for Tomorrow, which is committed to urging the General Assembly to provide an additional $1 billion over the next five years to protect the state’s land, water, and special places before they are irreversibly lost, fulfilling the million-acre goal and beyond. If you are the owner of a local business or you are part of a local club or organization, add your name to this growing coalition for saving our natural areas.
