Save the Blue Ridge

From the Smokies, to Grandfather Mountain, to the Parkway, North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains are famous.

That’s why in 2008, conservation officials awarded grants to protect and expand state parks and other natural heritage areas in the Blue Ridge, including funding to expand Chimney Rock State Park.

With the 75th anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway approaching, Environment North Carolina is calling on state officials to fulfill their commitments to protect the Blue Ridge.  Sign our petition to Gov. Perdue to protect the Blue Ridge Mountains and other critical natural areas around the state.

Learn More: Save our million acres

Environment North Carolina research shows that at least $250 million in new funding is needed if North Carolina is to meet its goal of preserving one million acres of open space by 2010. Read more.

Dear Governor Perdue,

Thanks to you and the Legislature for funding land conservation in the state's 2009-2010 Budget. As you know, North Carolina's natural beauty is not only famous; it also helps drive a vibrant tourist economy. I want my children, grandchildren, and their grandchildren to be able to enjoy the same peaceful woods and spectacular scenery that I can today.

Please follow through on the land conservation commitments already made by the state's natural resource trust fund boards, so that we can protect and expand Chimney Rock State Park, Carver's Creek, and countless other open spaces for future generations to enjoy.

Sincerely,
