Help save one of NC's last unspoiled rivers

Known for its spectacular waterfalls, the Horsepasture River is one of the state’s most beautiful, and is a popular hiking spot near the Nantahala National Forest.  But development pressures near the river are great, and the river lacks all the protections it deserves under clean water laws.

State officials with the Environmental Management Commission are considering designating the Horsepasture an “Outstanding Resource Water,” which will limit pollution discharges and increase vegetated buffers along the river and its tributaries.  Before they finalize the new designation, they want to hear from the public.  Send them an email to help save the Horsepasture River!
