A recent Supreme Court ruling is requiring the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to strengthen its rules limiting emissions of mercury, the potent neurotoxin that primarily comes from coal-fired power plants.

In an important victory for environmental and public health organizations, a federal appeals court ruled on February 8 that the Bush Administration'­s rules allowing coal-and oil-fired power plants to continue emitting dangerous levels of mercury violates the law. Environment North Carolina, one of the groups to challenge the inadequate mercury rules in court, applauded the decision. Read more.
